2014 Football Schedule Released

WAVERLY, Iowa-- Wartburg's Athletic Director and head football coach, Rick Willis, has announced the 2014 schedule.

The Knights have recorded 21 consecutive winning seasons, which is tied for the fifth-longest streak in all NCAA divisions and own a 170-42 record (.801 winning percentage) over the last 19 seasons.

Wartburg finished 9-3 overall and were 6-1 in Iowa Conference games last season. The Knights defeated then-No. 14 Illinois Wesleyan, 41-7, in Bloomington in the First-round of the NCAA Tournament and fell to then-No. 6 Bethel in the Sweet Sixteen, 34-27. The 2013 conference champions were ranked No. 15 in the final d3football.com poll.

The 2014 schedule looks a little different as the Knights will face two different non-conference schools in Augsburg and UW-Stout.

In the "Battle of the 'Burgs" on the gridiron, the two programs have met six times since 2004 and Wartburg holds the 4-2 lead over that time span. The two teams have not played one another since 2009 while UW-Stout and the Knights have never faced each other.

Wartburg will open its 2014 campaign on the road against Augsburg in Minneapolis for a 7 p.m. game.

The Knights will face Bethel for the seventh time since 2003 and will host the Royals for the home opener Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. Wartburg concludes its non-conference play when UW-Stout comes to town Sept. 20 for a 7 p.m. game.

The Knights are off Sept. 27 before opening the Iowa Conference portion of their schedule on the road against Central on Oct. 4.

The annual Homecoming game will be against Dubuque on Oct. 18 with a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
