No. 21 Men's Basketball Prevails Over Luther

WAVERLY, Iowa--The No. 21 Wartburg men's basketball team (11-3 overall, 4-1 IIAC) prevailed over Luther (4-10, 0-6), 73-51 Wednesday. 



The Knights and Norse started out the game deadlocked, before the Orange and Black went on a 7-0 run. 

Luther battled back on an eight-point run of their own to take the their second lead of the game at 13:53. 

Wartburg would take a 40-34 lead into the halftime break. In the first half, junior Cam Kickbush (Reinbeck) had a team-high 10 points. 

In the second half, Wartburg's defense would force back-to-back Luther turnovers at 4:05 and 3:37. Sophomore Camry Moore (Waverly) would earn one steal. 

The Orange and Black built their lead to 23 points at 2:22, which would also be their largest lead of the game. 

Offensively, junior Jaran Sabus (Urbandale) finished the game with a team-high 14 points. Three other Knights would finish in double digits: freshman Max Smith Drahos (Cedar Rapids) netted a career high 11 points and Kickbush finished with 10. Senior Nate Woeste (Atkins) had a team-best three assists. 

For the Knights' defense, senior Sawyer Herman (Monticello) led the team with seven rebounds. Woeste, Sabus and junior Josh Gehling (Dyersville) each had five. 

Wartburg travels to face Simpson on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 4 p.m. in Indianola.
