Wartburg to Host First and Second Rounds of NCAA Tournament

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The No. 2/2 Wartburg women's basketball team (27-0 overall) was selected to host NCAA First and Second Round games this weekend. The Knights will host Webster (20-6) Friday at 8 p.m. and No. 12/13 George Fox (24-3) and No. 21/24 Saint Benedict (22-4) will play in the other First round game at 5:30 p.m. Friday's winners will advance to Saturday's Second round game at 7 p.m.

This marks the first time Wartburg has hosted NCAA games for women's basketball since 2001. This will be the first time Levick Arena hosts an NCAA Tournament, as the games in 2001 were in the old Knights Gym, which was torn down for the W to be built. This marks the first NCAA contest in the Arena, which is home to Wartburg's volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, and wrestling home games/matches.

The Knights received the automatic bid as they won the Iowa Conference Tournament Championship and will make their 12th overall appearance and third-straight in the NCAA
Tournament.

The Orange and Black are one of five teams in all NCAA divisions that remain undefeated.

Senior Katie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) is the leading scorer for the Knights with 15.6 PPG. She also has a team-high 163 assists, and 62 steals. Classmates Miranda Murphy (Alleman) and Morgan Neuendorf (Plainfield) follow with 11.4 and 10.6 PPG, respectively.

Murphy leads the teamw ith 5.4 rebounds/game.

Career Leader List Watch
Katie is now sixth with 1,389 points, the all-time career leader with 513 assists, fourth with 183 three-point field goals, and third with 437 free throws.

Twin sister Kristie is the program's career leader in three-point field goals at 231. She is also 12th with 1,045 points.

Miranda Murphy is 11th with 1,059 points.

Senior Aryn Jones (Marion) ranks third with 113 blocked shots. She needs two to move into second.

Single Season Leader List Watch
Katie is eighth in free throws (130) and broke her own single season record in assists as she has 163 to to date. She has set the mark in each of her last three seasons.

Jones is tied for eighth in blocked shots (37).

The Knights rank 1st in won-lost percentage (100.0), 4th in personal fouls per game (12.3), 8th in three-point field goals made (231), 11th in three-point field goals per game (8.6), 11th in field-goal percentage (45.1), 13th in final points (2,088), 13th in scoring margin (20.4), 14th in assists (484), 16th in scoring offense (77.3), 17th in assist turnover ratio (1.19), 17th in assists per game (17.9), 18th in free throws made (409), 19th in fewest fouls (331), 21st in three-point field goals attempted (657), 24th in defensive rebounds per game (30), 28th in three-point field-goal percentage (35.2), 36th in free throw attempts (560), 47th in free-throw percentage (73.0), 48th in rebound margin (7.0), 72nd in turnovers per game (15.1), 82nd in rebounds (1,118), 90th in scoring defense (56.9), and 97th in turnover margin (2.81).

Webster
The Gorloks won the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) tournament. This is their fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament and first since 2011. Webster has surpassed the 20-win mark for the third time in school history.

Aley Lucas leads the team with 12.4 PPG and Taylor Lucas follows at 11.0. The twin sisters co-lead the team with 5.4 rebounds/game.

Saint Benedict
The Blazers are ranked No. 21 in the D3hoops.com poll and No. 24 in the WBCA poll. Saint Benedict received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. This will be the 17th appearance for the Blazers and first since 2009.

George Fox
This marks the 14th appearance by the Bruins in the NCAA Tournament. George Fox is ranked No. 12 in the WBCA and No. 13 in the D3hoops.com polls.
