Women's Cross Country

No. 3 Women's Cross Country Set to Make Run at NCAA Championships

WAVERLY, IA—After receiving one of ten qualifying bids, the No. 3 Wartburg Women's Cross country squad is set for the NCAA Division III National Championship on Nov. 20 in Louisville, Kentucky.
 
The women's race will start at 12 p.m. Eastern at the E.P. Sawyer State Park.
 
Teams that qualified for the national tournament include Wartburg, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Emory, SUNY Geneseo, Haverford, Hope, Johns Hopkins, Tufts, Williams, UW-La Crosse. The total competition field will include 32 teams, as twenty-two teams received at-large bids. Additionally, seventy individuals, seven from each region, will participate in the national championship.
 
Head coach Ryan Chapman, with Phil Spitzer, was named the Midwest Region Coach of the Year. Chapman and Spitzer led the Knights to the team title at the Midwest Regional Championships, the American Rivers Conference Championships, and took second at the Augustana Interregional Invitational, among others this season. Chapman and Spitzer were named the American Rivers Conference Coaching Staff of the Year as the Knights won the conference championship for the third straight year.
 
Getting to Nationals
 
Aubrie Fisher, who took runner-up honors at the American Rivers Conference Championship two weeks ago, clocked in at 21:32.1 for a second place finish to lead the Knights. Carina Collet was ten seconds behind her teammate, timing in at 21:42.1 for fourth place. Landing in the top-5 for the Knights was junior Riley Mayer with a 21:43.1 finish.
 
Natalie Paulson and Shaelyn Hostager finished inside the top-15 for the Knights, as the team had a combined score of 34. Paulson clocked in at 22:09.1, while Hostager was mere seconds behind her teammate.
