Salzwedel Field

Recently upgraded in 2019 as part of the Transforming Tomorrow Campaign, the Wartburg soccer field received several enhancements. Temporary bleachers at the men’s and women’s soccer venue were replaced with permanent aluminum bleachers to seat up to 400 spectators with 100 of the spaces having seat backs. The exterior of the bleacher structure will allow for signage to celebrate the tradition of success within the men’s and women’s programs.

The ongoing Outdoor Athletic Facilities Project will also feature a fence around the playing field, lights installed on the multipurpose turf practice field, and a hard-surface parking area adjacent to the Knief Pavilion.

In the fall of 2020, two Wartburg alumni and community leaders in the Madison, Wis., area were recognized with the naming of the soccer field. The Wartburg College Board of Regents approved the naming of Salzwedel Field to recognize Jack and Sarah Salzwedel, both 1982 graduates. The Salzwedels made the $750,000 challenge gift that spurred completion of the Outdoor Athletic Facilities project.
