Wartburg College’s men’s basketball teams hosts the 2010 Buzz Levick-Pizza Ranch Tipoff Tournament Friday and Saturday, Nov. 19 and 20. The women’s squad plays in UW-Platteville’s Pioneer Classic Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 20 and 21.
Wartburg’s women take on the host Pioneers at 2:30 p.m. Saturday on Bo Ryan Court inside Williams Fieldhouse on UW-Platteville’s campus. They conclude the two-day event with a 12 p.m. tip-off against Concordia University of Mequon, Wis., Sunday. Fans can listen to live audio and track live statistics of Saturday’s game via www.go-knights.net.
Wartburg notes: Women – Coach Bob Amsberry’s team takes a 1-0 record to UW-Platteville. The Knights upended Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference power Gustavus Adolphus 70-58 Nov. 15. Sophomore guard Abi Weidemann of Iowa Falls led the way in scoring with 17 points. Senior guard Samantha Harrington of Nashua added 14 and canned three treys. Sophomore forward Maddie Sadekcy of Iowa City added 10 points. Other highlights from Amsberry’s crew came from junior forward Emily Timmermans of Vinton with 10 rebounds, part of a 34-25 edge on the glass, five assists from Harrington, and four steals from junior guard Stephanie Reiter of LaPorte City. …. The victory was the Orange and Black’s first in a season opener since 2007-08. … Wartburg was picked third on the preseason Iowa Conference coaches poll, released early this week.
