Behind a top 20 individual effort from senior women’s golfer Jordan Galles (Cedar Falls), No. 14-ranked Wartburg College placed seventh at the D3 Preview meet Sept. 26 and 27.
Playing the national championships course at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort at Howey-in-the-Hill, Fla., coach Monica Severson’s squad carded rounds of 360 and 349 for a 709 total. Their first to second round turnaround led the 10-team field.
Galles’ rounds of 89 and 82, good for a 171, put her in a tie for 19th. Junior Paige Klostermann (Dyersville) also ended in the top 30 with rounds of 86 and 89 for a 175 to place her in a tie for 27th.
Coach Alan Johnson’s men’s team competed at two weekend tourneys. The Black team wound up ninth at UW-Eau Claire’s Frank Wrigglesworth Collegiate Invitational Sept. 26 and 27, while the Orange squad took a tie for 25th at the University of Dubuque’s Bishop’s Buffet Invitational Sept. 25 and 26.
The Knights were led by the freshman duo of Jared Thill of Pleasantville and John Sexton of Fairfield at Eau Claire. They each played sub 80 rounds both days to end in a tie for 14th at 153. At Dubuque, freshman Nate Mesinger of Waterloo was low with a 170.
