Knights topped by Coe

CEDAR RAPIDS – Sophomore forward Maddie Sadecky (Iowa City) 14 points and eight points, six rebounds and a blocked shot by senior center Katie Zittergruen (Van Horne) led No. 22-ranked Wartburg College at Coe College’s Eby Fieldhouse Jan. 15.

Coach Bob Amsberry’s Knights, seeing their school-record 14-0 start snapped by the host Kohawks in a 51-39 loss, opened a quick 12-3 lead. However, Coe (12-2, 5-1 IIAC), responded with 11 consecutive points of its own. The game stayed back and forth until the home team reeled off a 16-2 stretch from the 12:25 mark of the second half to the end.

Sadecky hit five-of-eight field goal attempts and was strong from outside the arc, going four-for-six. She also added five rebounds and a blocked shot. Freshman guard Carly Jacobs turned in six points, three assists, and a steal.

Wartburg (14-1 overall, 5-1 IIAC) begins a busy league week Monday, Jan. 17, when Luther College of Decorah visits Levick Arena for a 6 p.m. tipoff.

NOTES – The Knights’ loss dropped them into a second-place tie in the IIAC standings with Coe. Simpson College of Indianola, three-time defending champion, leads the way at 6-0. … Following the game with Luther, the Orange and Black travel to Simpson’s Cowles Fieldhouse Wednesday, Jan. 19, and then begins the second half of conference play with a rematch against the Kohawks at Levick Arena Saturday, Jan. 22.
