Knights Narrowly Fall in Overtime of Championship Game

LACROSSE, Wis.—The Wartburg women’s basketball team (4-1 overall) narrowly fell 56-54 to host-UW-LaCrosse (5-1) in the UW-LaCrosse Tournament championship game Sunday afternoon.
 
The Knights were down 21-18 at halftime, but outscored the Eagles 24-21 in the second half to even the score at the end of regulation.
 
In the overtime session, the score was tied 54 all with six seconds remaining. Katie Ehlen of UW-LaCrosse made two successive free throws to give the Eagles the two point lead and the Orange and Black were unable to run a play before time expired.
 
Junior Abi Weidemann (Iowa Falls) was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts in the tournament as she finished in double digits with 13 points in the championship game.
 
Sophomore Carly Jacobs (Greene) led the Knights with her career-high 20 points in the game.
 
Senior Leslie Wilson (Austin, Minn.) led the Orange and Black on the glass with her career-high 14 rebounds.
 
Wartburg returns to action Wednesday on the road against Luther College at 6 p.m. to open the Iowa Conference portion of its schedule.
