Knights Advance to Championship Game with Win over Blue Jays

WAVERLY, Iowa—The Wartburg women’s basketball team advanced to the Championship game of its own annual Holiday Tournament with the 59-50 win over Westminster Thursday evening.

Four players finished in double-digits as senior Stephanie Reiter (Buckingham) led the team with her 16 points. Junior Abi Weidemann (Iowa Falls) tallied 12 and seniors Terri Dirks (Monticello) and Leslie Wilson (Austin, Minn.) each finished with 11 points on the night.

Dirks narrowly missed a double-double as she had a team-best nine rebounds. Wilson followed closely behind with eight and junior Cathy Reiter (Buckingham) had six.

The Knights were ahead 30-20 at halftime and were ahead by as many as 14 in the second frame.

The Orange and Black’s defense held the Blue Jays to a .321 field goal percentage and only .200 from beyond the arc.

With the win, Wartburg will face tenth-ranked Washington University-St. Louis in the Championship game tomorrow at 3 p.m.
