WAVERLY, Iowa—The Wartburg women’s basketball team (6-1 overall, 2-0 IIAC) defeated Iowa Conference opponent, Simpson (5-2, 1-1), 71-54 Saturday afternoon.

Three Knights finished in double-digits as senior Stephanie Reiter (Buckingham, Iowa) had a team-high 17 points on the game.

Junior Abi Weidemann (Iowa Falls) followed with 16 and senior Leslie Wilson (Austin, Minn.) had 12.

Wilson led the team on the boards with her eight rebounds.

The Orange and Black finished .950 from the free throw line, which set a new single-game program record. The old mark stood at .941 set last season on Feb. 16 against Dubuque.

Wartburg’s defense held Simpson to a team field goal percentage of .278, including .269 from beyond the arc.

The Knights took the 33-22 lead at halftime and led by as many as 19 points in the second frame.

The Orange and Black return to the court Wednesday when they travel to face Buena Vista at 6 p.m.
