Wartburg College’s men host UW-Eau Claire and Morningside College of Sioux City Saturday, March 12, while the women’s squad welcomes Augustana College of Rock Island, Ill., Sunday March 13.
Dual times are 9 a.m. against UW-EC and 3 p.m. against Morningside Saturday. The women oppose Augustana at 1 p.m. Sunday. All duals are held in the Hoover Fieldhouse of the Wartburg-Waverly Sports and Wellness Center.
KNIGHTS NOTES: Coach Matt Tyler’s men stand 2-7. … The Knights battled a strong schedule on their recent winter break trip to Orlando, Fla. Wartburg had two near misses towards the win column, falling 6-3 to Capital University of Ohio and 5-4 to Hanover College of Indiana. … Along individual lines, junior Chris Buckingham of Waverly is out to a strong start with a 7-3 record at number one singles which includes a two-match win streak. Senior Aaron Masterson of Lindsborg, Kansas, and sophomore Blayne Willadsen of New Hampton are second in singles’ victories with six apiece. Wartburg’s top doubles’ tandem is Buckingham and freshman D.J. Grant of Waterloo with a 2-4 mark. … Wartburg’s women concluded their portion of the winter trip with a 1-2 record. A 6-3 victory over Hanover highlighted the span. … Senior Molly Eslick of Fort Dodge remains atop the singles’ win ladder with a 16-1 record, while the trio of sophomore Jenny Dallenbach of Decorah, sophomore Claire Evans of Alden and junior Lindsay Greiner of Boone each have 13 victories. The top doubles’ squad is Eslick and fellow senior Leanna Nelson of Burlington with a 12-5 record.
NEXT UP: Wartburg’s men break from competition after this weekend until a triangular at Central College in Pella against the Dutch and Simpson Saturday, March 26. The women don’t return to the courts until a triangular with Edgewood and Carroll Colleges of Wisconsin April 10.
