Wilson’s Double-Double Not Enough to Overcome Spartans

WAVERLY, Iowa—Senior Leslie Wilson (Austin, Minn.) recorded her second double-double of the year with her 12 points and 11 rebounds in Wartburg’s loss to Iowa Conference opponent, Dubuque.

The Knights move to 11-4 on the season and 4-2 in IIAC play while the Spartans move to 5-9 and 1-4.

Junior Maddie Sadecky (Iowa City) joined Wilson in double digits with her 11 points and senior Terri Dirks (Monticello) had 10 rebounds.

Dubuque was paced by 19 points from Aimee Reyzer and 11 from Mollie Whiting.

The Spartans were ahead 25-22 at halftime until the Orange and Black started the second frame on a 6-2 run over the first three minutes.

The lead changed hands four times over the next 15 minutes as Dubuque pulled ahead by six with 2:39 remaining.

Wartburg cut the margin to three points with 2:12 to go. The Spartans compiled a 4-0 run over the next 60 seconds until Wilson sliced the margin to four with her trey with 0:49 on the clock.

Dubuque made its two free throw attempts to give the Knights the ball back with 0:29 left, but were unable to score on their last possession.

Wartburg won the battle of the boards (43-31).

The Orange and Black return to action Saturday on the road against Loras at 2 p.m.
