CEDAR RAPIDS—The Wartburg women’s basketball team (11-3 overall, 4-1 IIAC) handed Iowa Conference opponent, Coe (10-4, 4-1) its first IIAC loss with the 56-46 victory Saturday.
The win also snapped the Knights’ five-game series skid to the Kohawks.
Senior Leslie Wilson (Austin, Minn.) led the Orange and Black with 15 points and junior Abi Weidemann (Iowa Falls) joined her in double-digits with her 13 points.
Senior Teri Dirks (Monticello) led the team on the glass with her seven rebounds.
The game was scored four times in the first half including at 7:37 until Wartburg went on a 6-0 run over the next three minutes and took the 24-18 lead at the break.
Coe opened the second frame on a 12-5 run over the first five minutes to take the one-point lead.
The lead exchanged hands six times over the next eight minutes until the Knights regained it for good at 38-36 with 7:07 remaining. The Orange and Black compiled a 6-0 run over the next three minutes to build their margin to seven.
The Kohawks cut the spread to four with 3:37 remaining, but were unable to overcome the difference.
The Knights return to the court Wednesday when they host Dubuque at 6 p.m.
