MONMOUTH, Ill.-- The Wartburg women's basketball team (0-1 overall) lost to eighth-ranked UW-Whitewater (2-0) Saturday in the opening game of Monmouth's tournament.
The Warhawks compiled a 13-3 late in the game as the score was knotted 52 all with 2:53 remaining.
UW-Whitewater was ahead 36-22 at halftime, but the Knights went on a 22-7 run in the first nearly 12 minutes of the second half to claim the 46-43 lead.
The score was tied three times in the second half and for the final time at 52 all with just under three minutes to play.
Senior Abi Weidemann (Iowa Falls) and sophomore Carly Jacobs (Greene) co-led the team with 16 points.
Senior Baileigh O'Brien (Fort Dodge) followed closely with 14 points and a team-best nine rebounds.
As a team, the Orange and Black held the advantages in field goal percentage (.353-.328) and three-point percentage (.360-.250).
Wartburg returns to the court tomorrow and the loser of the Monmouth/Iowa Wesleyan game Sunday in the third-place game at 1 p.m.
