EAU CLAIRE, Wis.-- Non-conference opponent, UW-Eau Claire (2-3 overall) used a strong second-half to defeat Wartburg (2-2) 47-45 Thursday.
Senior Baileigh O'Brien (Fort Dodge) recorded her first double-double of the year with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Sophomore Allison Emrich (Vinton) matched O'Brien with 10 points of her own to set a new career-best.
O’Brien hit a half-court shot at the buzzer in the first half to give Wartburg the 20-19 lead.
The Knights started the game on a 9-3 run in the first seven minutes of the game but the Blugolds battled back with a 9-2 run over the next four minutes to take the 15-11 lead.
UW-Eau Claire led by seven with 5:37 remaining in the frame but the Orange and Black compiled a 9-1 run to take the 20-19 lead at halftime.
The Blugolds opened the second half on an 11-2 run in first 5:30.
UW-Eau Claire led by as many as 11 points twice in the frame but Wartburg fought back and knotted the score at 45 all with 0:34 to play as sophomore Alyssa Sager (Albert Lea, Minn.) made both of her free throws.
The Blugolds made two free throws to go ahead 47-45 with 0:33 left.
The Knights were unable to make their ensuing free throws to give the win to UW-Eau Claire.
The Orange and Black return to the court Sunday when they host Grinnell at 2 p.m.
