WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg women's basketball team battled hard against the defending National Champions, Illinois Wesleyan, in the championship game of its own annual holiday tournament Saturday. The Titans won the team title 80-62.
Freshman Kailey Kladivo had a team-best 15 points off the bench and sophomore Allison Emrich had 12 points to lead the Knights.
For their effort over the two games, Kladivo and senior Cathy Reiter were named to the All-Tournament team.
Reiter, Emrich and senior Bailiegh O'Brien all had five rebounds on the day.
Illinois Wesleyan used a full court press to pressure the Orange and Black's offense throughout the game.
The Titans took the 33-27 lead at halftime which they never relinquished.
Wartburg was able to whittle the margin to six with just under nine minutes to play, but Illinois Wesleyan answered back with a 7-2 run over the next two minutes.
The Knights are off from competition until next Saturday when they open Iowa Conference play against Dubuque. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
