Box Score
WAVERLY, Iowa—The Wartburg women’s basketball team (18-8 overall) advanced to the semifinals of the Iowa Conference tournament with its 59-53 overtime win against Loras (14-12).
The Knights will face top-seeded Simpson Thursday on the road at 7 p.m.
The Duhawks took the 30-28 lead at halftime and the margin remained in single digits the entire second half.
The Orange and Black knotted the score at 40-40 with 9:02 remaining. Loras built its lead to four twice from that point, including 47-43 with 2:01 to go.
Wartburg would be the only team to score from that point on as junior Abi Weidemann (Iowa Falls) made two successive free throws to cut the lead in half (47-45) with 0:41 left and senior Leslie Wilson (Austin, Minn.) made a layup with 0:15 to go to tie the game at 47 all.
The Duhawks attempted a last-second three-point shy to try to take the win, but it fell short to force the extra session.
The Knights took their first lead of the ballgame just 30 seconds into overtime on senior Stephanie Reiter’s (Buckingham) sixth trey of the game. She would finish with a team-high 18 points and finished one three-point basket from tying the single-game school record.
Loras regained the lead at 53-52 with 1:36 remaining, but this would be the last time it would score as the Orange and Black ended the game on a 7-0 run to take the victory.
Three other Wartburg players joined Reiter in double figures. Weidemann tallied 13 points while Wilson and senior Terri Dirks (Monticello) each finished with 10.
Dirks led the team on the glass with her six rebounds while Reiter, Wilson and freshman Allison Emrich (Vinton) all pulled in five on the game.
With the win, the Knights are now 3-1 against the Duhawks in the tournament.
