CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa-- The Wartburg men's tennis team (3-4 overall, 0-3 IIAC) fell by scores of 8-1 to non-conference opponent, Carthage, and Iowa Conference opponent, Coe, Saturday.
Against Carthage, Eric Hilpert and Blayne Willadsen teamed up for the 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles for the Knights' lone point of the match.
In singles play, Chris Buckingham fell 6-1 and 6-1 at No.1 while Brian Rasmussen fell 6-1 and 6-0 at No. 2.
Hilpert was defeated 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3, Willadsen fell 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4, Dayton Stevens lost 6-2, 6-3 and Josh Trueblood fell 6-1, 6-1.
Buckingham/Trublood lost 8-2 at Stevens/Rasmussen fell 8-4 in the other doubles matches.
Against Coe, Hilpert and Willadsen won agains (8-6) at No. 3 doubles.
Buckingham fell 6-4, 7-6 at No. 1 singles, Rasmussen suffered a 6-2, 6-2 loss and Hilpert fell 6-4, 7-6.
Willadsen lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4, Stevens lost 6-0, 4-6, 10-5 and Trueblood fell 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6.
In the other two doubles matches, Buckingham/Trueblood were defeated 8-2 and Stevens/Rasmussen fell 8-4.
The Knights return to the court next week for three matches in Orlando, Fla. on their Spring Break trip.
