DUBUQUE, Iowa—The Wartburg women’s basketball team (16-6 overall, 9- IIAC) fell to Iowa Conference opponent, Dubuque (13-10, 8-6) 58-53 Wednesday night.
Three Knights finished in double digits as sophomore Carly Jacobs (Greene) led the team with her 16 points. Senior Terri Dirks (Monticello) and junior Abi Weidemann (Iowa Falls) each tallied 10 points on the night.
Dirks led the Orange and Black with her seven rebounds.
Wartburg took the 26-23 lead at halftime but the Spartans used an 11-5 run over the first four minutes of the second frame to take the three-point lead (34-31) with 15:33 remaining.
The Knights knotted the score at 36 all with 12:47 to go and came within one point with 5:20 remaining, but Dubuque answered with a 7-2 run over the next two minutes to take the lead for good.
The Spartans shot 56.0 percent from the field in the second frame.
Mollie Whiting led Dubuque with her 20 points and Heather Taylor joined her in double digits with 12 points on the night.
The Orange and Black have clinched a spot in the Iowa Conference tournament.
Wartburg returns to action Saturday when it hosts Loras at 2 p.m.
