WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg men's tennis team (9-5 overall, 2-4 IIAC) finished 2-0 on the day Saturday with its 6-3 win over Central and 9-0 victory over Bethany Lutheran.
Against the Dutch, Brian Rasmussen won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Eric Hilpert won his No. 3 match 6-3, 6-3, Blayne Willadsen won 6-0, 4-0 at No. 4 and Josh Trueblood was victorious at No. 6 (6-3, 6-3).
Chris Buckingham fell 6-0, 6-2 at the top spot and Dayton Stevens was defeated 6-0, 4-0 at No. 5.
In doubles play, Rasmussen and Stevens combined for the 8-2 win at No. 2 and Hilpert/Willadsen won their No. 3 match 8-2.
Buckingham and Trueblood were defeated 8-4 at the top spot.
Against Bethany Lutheran, Rasmussen played at the No. 1 singles spot and won 6-2, 6-1. Hilpert won 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 2 position, Willadsen was victorius 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 and Stevens won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Trueblood won his No. 5 match (6-0, 6-0) and Walker Wilson rounded out the singles competitors with his 6-0, 6-0 win.
All of the doubles matches were won 8-2 by the Knights.
Rasmussen/Trueblood won at the top spot, Hilpert/Willadsen at No. 2 and Coy Wiedmann/Stevens at No. 3.
Wartburg returns to the court next Saturday against Grand View at 9 a.m.
