WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg men's tennis team won both of its matches Saturday as it defeated Ashford University 6-2 and Iowa Conference opponent, Buena Vista, 5-2 Saturday.
Against Ashford in singles play, Chris Buckingham won at the top spot 7-5, 7-6 and Brian Rasmussen won 6-4, 7-5 at the No. 2 position.
Eric Hilpert was victorious 6-2, 6-2 (No. 3), Blayne Willadsen won 6-0, 6-1 (No. 4) and Josh Trueblood rounded out the singles competitors with his No. 6 win (6-0, 6-1).
In doubles play, Hilpert and Willadsen combined for the win at the No. 3 spot, 8-2.
Buckingham/Trueblood were defeated 8-4 at No. 1 and Rasmussen/Dayton Stevens fell 8-3 at No. 2 doubles.
Against Buena Vista, Buckingham won his No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-0 and Brian Rasmussen also won his No. 2 match by the same score.
Willadsen won at No. 4 (6-2, 6-1) and Stevens was victorious at No. 5 (6-2, 6-2).
In doubles play, Hilpert and Willadsen combined for the lone Wartburg win at No. 2, 8-2.
Buckingham/Trueblood were defeated 8-5 and Walker Wilson and Coy Wiegmann fell 8-2 at the No. 3 position.
The team returns to the court next Saturday on the road against Simpson.
