WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg women's basketball team recorded its tenth victory of the year in its 58-55 win over Iowa Conference opponent, Coe Wednesday night.
The Kohawks took the narrow lead (30-28) at halftime, but the Knights used a 30-point second half scoring effort to take the victory.
Coe's last lead was at 11:11 remaining (44-39) but the Orange and Black went on a 8-0 run over the next three minutes to take the lead at 47-44.
The Kohawks did not back away from the tight game as they knotted the score at 49 all with 4:48 to play.
Junior Carly Jacobs (Greene) answered with a three-point basket which gave Wartburg the lead for good.
It was a one-point game with 0:37 left but senior Abi Weidemann (Iowa Falls) made both of her free throw attempts to build the lead to three once again.
Coe took the ball up the court but was unable to run one last play as time expired.
Jacobs and Weidemann co-led the team with 11 points each. Senior Baileigh O'Brien (Fort Dodge) and freshman Kailey Kladivo (Traer) joined the duo in double digits with 10 points a piece.
The Knights return to the court Saturday when they travel to Buena Vista for a 2 p.m. game.
