DUBUQUE, Iowa-- Iowa Conference opponent Dubuque (14-6 overall, 4-5 IIAC) narrowly defeated Wartburg (12-8, 5-4) 49-48 Wednesday night.
The Knights took the 22-20 lead into the locker room at halftime, but the Spartans outscored them 29-26 in the second half.
The score was tied 45-45 with with 1:42 to play. Dubuque regained the lead on a jumper by Mollie Whitting (47-45) with 1:16 to go.
Junior Carly Jacobs (Greene) gave the Orange and Black the one-point lead with her trey with 0:22 remaining.
Whiting answered with another jumper with two seconds on the clock to take the 49-48 lead.
An unfortunate Wartburg turnover was made on its final possesion to give the victory to the Spartans.
Seniors Baileigh O'Brien (Fort Dodge) and Abi Weidemann (Iowa Falls) co-led the Knights with 12 points each.
Freshman Kailey Kladivo (Traer) almost joined them in double digits with nine points and had a team-best six rebounds.
Wartburg outrebounded Dubuque 38-32.
The Orange and Black return to the hardwood Saturday when they travel to face Central at 2 p.m.
