#1 Wartburg to Host #14 Coe in Conference Championship Dual

WAVERLY, Iowa—The No. 1 ranked Wartburg wrestling team (18-0 overall) will host No. 14 Coe (12-5) in the Iowa Conference Championship Dual on Friday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m.

This event will be co-produced through Wartburg Television and KCRG 9.2. Click here for the live stream.

Legendary coach Dan Gable and Cedar Rapids Gazette sports writer, KJ Pilcher, will be the on-air talent.

Wartburg received the top seed as it owned a perfect 7-0 record through the regular season. Coe finished as the runner-up as its only loss came against Wartburg in a 29-3 loss on Jan. 18.

New format:
This dual will determine the conference champion due to the ending of the conference tournament. All-conference wrestlers will be determined by the top three Iowa Conference finishers in each weight class at the NCAA Regional meet on March 2.

Wartburg’s streak:
The Knights have won 20 consecutive IIAC championships and have 164 straight wins over IIAC opponents.

Their 20 consecutive conference titles is the longest streak in Division III wrestling. The longest previous streak was 17 which was held by Augsburg College (1987-2003).

Other notes:
-Wartburg has two previous 18-0 seasons, in 1992-93 and 2010-11.

-Nine of the Knights competitors are ranked in the top 10 of their respective weight classes:
125: Gilberto Camacho #7
133: Kenny Anderson #1
149: Kodie Silvestri #1
157: Cole Welter #3
165: Landon Williams #1
174: Dylan Azinger #5
184: Sam Upah #5
197: Puna Soriano #7
285: Ryan Fank #6

-Camacho, Anderson, Welter, Williams, Upah, Soriano and Fank have all surpassed the 20-win mark for the season.

-Anderson is a perfect 20-0 this year and he has a winning streak of 38 that dates back to last season. His last loss came to Nathan Fitzenreider of North Central at the NWCA National Duals, whom he later defeated for an individual NCAA National Championship.

-Williams currently has a 13-match winning streak, Silvestri's string is at 11, Welter's is at eight and Upah's and Soriano's both have a seven-bout winnings streak.

-This will be co-head coach Jim Miller’s final home event as he is stepping down from head coaching at the completion of the season. Click here to read USA Wrestling's story about Miller.
