Wartburg's Comeback Falls Just Short Against Coe

WAVERLY, Iowa-- Wartburg outscored Coe 39-37 in the second half Saturday and tied the game 67-67 with 2:28 to play.

After a trey by the Kohawks with 1:13 remaining, sophomore Kailey Kladivo (Traer) was fouled and she made her first free throw attempt to make the margin two (70-68) in Coe's favor. The teams traded layups to bring the score to 72-70 with :32 left.

Wartburg quickly fouled and Coe made both free throws to extend the lead to 74-70 with :19 remaining. The Knights attempted to run another play, but were unfortunately their shots were unsuccessful as time expired.

Junior Alyssa Sager (Albert Lea, Minn.) had a team-best 16 points in the 74-70 loss. Classmate Holly Halstead (Hudson) and sophomore Bobbi Burrows (Bondurant) joined her in double digits with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Junior Allison Emrich (Vinton) had a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Knights (7-8 overall, 1-3 IIAC) held the team advantage over Coe (7-8, 2-2) in blocks (3-2), steals (8-5) and rebounds (46-39).

The Orange and Black take to the road next week and will first face Buena Vista Wednesday at 6 p.m.
