Three Record Double-Doubles as Wartburg Triumphs in Overtime

Box Score

STORM LAKE, Iowa-- Wartburg (8-8 overall, 2-3 IIAC) defeated Buena Vista (6-10, 0-5) 82-77 in overtime Wednesday.

Four Knights finished in double digits and were led by a season-high 20 from sophomore Kailey Kladivo (Traer). Junior Alyssa Sager (Albert Lea, Minn.) had 17, sophomore Bobbi Burrows (Bondurant) had 15 and junior Allison Emrich (Vinton) had 14.

Kladivo, Emrich and Sager all had double-doubles as they pulled down 12, 11 and 11 rebounds, respectively. Through research, Wartburg has found three instances of this previously occurring in NCAA Division III: SUNY-New Paltz vs. SUNY Plattsburgh on 1/18/13 , Wesley vs. South Virginia on 1/4/14 and Mary Hardin-Baylor vs. Hardin Simmons on 1/18/14.

The Orange and Black led 36-34 at halftime and the Beavers outscored them, 38-36, in the second half to force overtime.

In the extra session, the teams traded layups to make the score 74-74 with 3:52 to go.

Buena Vista made one of its two free throw attempts to take the one-point lead until Emrich gave Wartburg the one-point advantage with her layup with 1:30 left.

The Beavers were sent to the charity stripe as the Knights fouled and reclaimed the one-point lead (77-76) as both shots were good with 1:00 to go.

Kladivo gave the Orange and Black the lead for good with her bucket at 0:45. After Buena Vista missed a three-pointer, it quickly fouled Burrows. She compiled a 4-0 run of her own to end the game as she made all four of her free throw attempts.

Wartburg concludes its two-game roadswing Saturday when it will face Simpson at 2 p.m.
