WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg men's tennis team defeated Luther, 6-3 Wednesday. This marked the first win over Luther since 1984 and the Knights also increased their winning streak to six.
The Orange and Black are now 8-7 on the year and 4-1 in Iowa Conference matches, while the Norse stand at 19-6, 3-2.
"The guys played incredibly well tonight and our seniors really stepped up," said head coach Mike Strydom. "This was the best I've seen us play in doubles. Everyone got aggressive; I think they got the message that when we take control, we can get three doubles points early and we'll start to win some matches."
"We knew this was our year to come out and maybe have a chance to take them as we've scored a couple of points against them in years past," said senior Coy Wiegmann. "We came out with three big wins right away (in doubles) and that really set the tone."
