Burrows Tallies 14 in Narrow 62-58 Loss to Loras

DUBUQUE, Iowa-- Junior Bobbie Burrows (Bondurant) had a team-best 14 points in the narrow 62-58 loss to Loras Wednesday.



After the Duhawks took the 36-26 lead into halftime, the Knights outscored the home team 32-26 in the second frame.

After slicing the lead to two (54-52) with 4:42 to go, the Orange and Black took the one-point lead on a trey by Burrows with 3:32 to play. The score was tied at 57 all with 2:31 left on a layup by senior Alison Emmrich (Vinton). Loras made both of its free throws to make the lead two with 2:19 to play.

Freshman Kristie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) made the margin one once more with her free throw at 1:39 left on the clock. After a missed layup by Wartburg, it quickly fouled a Loras player with 20 seconds left to put the Duhawks on the free throw line to attempt to get the ball back. The shooter missed the attempt which the Knights rebounded and brought up the floor. After a missed shot which Loras rebounded, the Knights quickly fouled with nine seconds left.

The Duhawks made both free throws and the Orange and Black's last shot attempt from three-point land to beat the buzzer was unsucessful.

Wartburg returns to the court Saturday when they travel to face Simpson at 2 p.m.
