Wartburg Holds On to Defeat Coe, 60-54

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg women's basketball team moved to 13-7 on the season and 4-5 in Iowa Conference play in its 60-54 win over Coe (13-7, 6-3) Wednesday.



Junior Kailey Kladivo (Traer) had a team-high 12 points while freshman twin sisters Katie and Kristie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) each talled 10 on the night.

The Knights took the 30-20 lead into halftime and built their lead to as many as 13 twice in the second half. The Kohawks sliced the margin to three on a trey with 2:05 left to make the score 56-53.

Kristie Sommer made her two free throws with 1:45 to go to make the lead five. Coe made a free throw with 1:28 to play but freshman Morgan Neuendorf (Shell Rock) made her free throw with 1:06 to go to make the score 59-54.

The Kohawks missed a three-point attempt and after another turnover, they quickly fouled to try to get the ball back. Junior Bobbie Burrows (Bondurant) made her free throw to make the score 60-54 with 29 seconds left.

Coe attempted another trey with 24 to go but were unsuccessful as Wartburg got the defensive rebound.

The Knights conclude their two-game homestand Saturday when they host Loras at 2 p.m.
