Kladivo Scores 25 as Winning Streak is Halted at Ten

DECORAH, Iowa-- Senior Kailey Kladivo (Traer) led No. 13 Wartburg with 25 points in the 78-68 loss to Luther Wednesday. This marked the first conference loss for the Knights and halted their winning streak at 10.

The Orange and Black are now 12-2 and 2-1 in IIAC games while the Norse are 11-3, 3-0.

Two other players joined Kladivo in double digits as senior Bobbie Burrows (Bondurant) finished with five three's for 15 points, just one shy of her career best. She scored three treys in a row in the first quarter. Sophomore Kristie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) rounded out the leading scorers with 10 points.

Luther led 50-35 at halftime as it had made 10 three's in the first two quarters.

In the fourth quarter, Kladivo's two free throws brought the Knights within seven with 1:41 to play. A Luther offensive foul gave Wartburg the ball back with 1:13 to go. The Norse made one of their two free throw attempts to make it an eight-point game with :59 on the clock. Kladivo was then fouled and she made one fo her two free throw attempts to make it 70-63 with :50 left.
 
The Orange and Black are then called for the foul and Luther makes both free throws with :45 left to make it 72-63. Kladivo scores on a layup to make it 72-65 with :36 to play. Sommer fouls and the Norse make both free throws. Kladivo once again scores on a layup and is fouled, but unfortunately did not make the and-one attempt.

There is a scramble on the floor for a lose ball and Luther calls timeout with :27 to go. After another foul by Sommer, the Norse make both free throws again to make it 76-67 with :24 left. Wartburg brings it up the floor and misses a three-point attempt, but the rebound goes off of Luther so the visitors retain the ball with :14 to play. After Burrow's three-point attempt is short, Sommer is fouled with :11 left and makes one of her free throws to make it 76-68. Wartburg calls timeout and Sommer misses her second free throw attempt by the Knights immediately foul to put the Norse at the line. They make both free throws with :09 to go to make it 78-68.

The Orange and Black bring it up the floor once more and their last-second trey attempt does not go in.

As a team, the Knights held the advantage in field goal percentage (44.2% vs 41.7%).

Wartburg returns to the court Saturday when it travels to Buena Vista at 2 p.m.
