Box ScoreSTORM LAKE, Iowa-- Three players finished in double digits in Wartburg's narrow 83-80 loss at Buena Vista Saturday. Senior Kailey Kladivo (Traer) led the team with 18 points while sophomore twins Katie and Kristie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) scored 17 and 12 points, respectively.
WARTBURG at BUENA VSTA HIGHLIGHTSThe Knights are now 12-3 overall and 2-2 in Iowa Conference games while BV is 8-7, 2-2.
Kladivo was also the team's leading rebounder with eight on the day and she also finished a perfect 4-4 at the free throw line.
Buena Vista led 45-40 at halftime and the Orange and Black outscored it in the third quarter, 20-18. Wartburg made it a one-point game with 4:06 left in the third quarter on a three-pointer from sophomore Megan Murphy (Alleman), 53-52.
BV did not lead by more than five points in the duration of the game as the Knights came within two with 1:02 to play on a trey by Katie Sommer. After a missed shot, the Orange and Black quickly fouled to put Buena Vista on the line. BV made both free throws to extend its lead to four with 27 seconds on the clock. After a missed shot and a turnover, Wartburg again fouled and BV increased the margin to six as both free throws were good.
The Knights brought the ball up the floor with five seconds left and Katie Sommer made a three with one second left to make the score 83-80 in favor of the home team.
The Orange and Black return home Wednesday for a game against Simpson at 6 p.m.
