Kristie Sommer Sets New School Record in Win over Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa-- Sophomore Kristie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) set a new school record with her eight three-pointers in No. 16 Wartburg's (11-1 overall, 1-0 IIAC) 89-54 win over Dubuque (5-7, 0-1) Wednesday. The old mark was seven which was achieved seven times by five different players: Elizabeth Campbell, vs. Central, 1/26/08; Samantha Harrington, vs. St. Ambrose, 12/19/08; Abbey Hempen, vs. Loras, 01/03/09, vs. Dubuque, 01/27/10, vs. Loras, 2/23/10; Maddie Sadecky, vs. Central, 12/4/10; Stephanie Reiter, at Central, 2/18/12.

With the win, the Knights have also moved their winning streak to nine.

"I was really pleased with our defensive effort tonight and our players did a nice job staying true to our game plan," said head coach Bob Amsberry. "Kristie's performance in the first half really opened opportunities for us in the paint in the second half. We had really nice balance again tonight."

Sommer led all scorers with 24 points. Four players joined her in double digits as senior Kailey Kladivo (Traer) had 19, twin sister Katie Sommer had 12, sophomore Aryn Jones (Marion) had 11 and classmate Morgan Neuendorf (Shell Rock) tallied 10.

Kladivo recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 11 rebounds. Kristie narrowly had a double-double of her own with nine boards as Wartburg led in every quarter.

The Orange and Black return to the court Saturday when they host Central at 2 p.m.
