WAVERLY, Iowa-- The No. 10/12 Wartburg women's basketball team moved to 4-0 with its 65-47 win over UW-Eau Claire Saturday. This also snapped a three-game winning streak for the Blugolds. The Knights outscored UWEC 37-20 in the second half which included 19-8 in the fourth quarter alone.
Junior Miranda Murphy (Alleman) led the team with her 14 points while classmates Aryn Jones (Marion) and Katie Sommer (Marion) each contributed 13. Katie had a team-best six assists.
The Orange and Black took their first lead of the game less than two minutes into the second quarter on a layup by Miranda. The score was tied five more times until Wartburg took the lead for good with 5:28 left in the third on a jumper by Miranda. The Knights built their lead to as many as 18 in the fourth.
The Orange and Black shot .511 from the field while their defense held UW-Eau Claire to just .291 which included .179 from three-point land.
Wartburg returns to the court for its Iowa Conference opener against Nebraska Wesleyan Wednesday at 6 p.m.
