ST. PAUL, Minn.-- The Wartburg women's basketball team (22-7 overall) defeated #8/9 St. Thomas (26-4) 70-66 Friday in the Sweet Sixteen game. With the win, the Knights will face #5/6 Texas-Tyler in the Elite Eight game Saturday at 7 p.m. This will mark the program's fourth overall appearance in the Elite Eight.

The Orange and Black halted UST's 16-game winning streak.

Sophomore Katie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) set a new single season school record in assists (123) with her three on the night which broke the old mark of 122 set by LeAnn Bollum in the 1981-82 season.

Katie finished with a team-best 13 points. Twin sister Kristie followed with 12 points, classmate Aryn Jones (Marion) had 11 and sophomores Morgan Neuendorf (Shell Rock) and Miranda Murphy (Alleman) each had 10.

As a team, the Orange and Black shot .500 from the field which included .526 from beyond the arc. Wartburg had 10 treys compared to the Tommie's five. St. Thomas led 33-29 at halftime.
