OSHKOSH, Wis.-- For the first time since 2001, the Wartburg women's basketball team (21-7 overall) advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in the 66-56 win over No. 11/16 UW-Oshkosh Saturday. The Knights will face No. 8/9 St. Thomas Friday. Game time and site will be announced on Monday.

Senior Kailey Kladivo (Traer) led all scorers with 23 points on the night and classmate Bobbie Burrows (Bondurant) and sophomore Miranda Murphy (Alleman) joined her in double digits with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Murphy finished with a double-double with a team-best and career-high 10 rebounds.



"We knew we could beat them, as we had before (at our Holiday Tournament)," said Burrows. "We knew we just had to play our game and that they would come out strong, so we'd have to come out stronger.

"We have many different strengths on our team as we can play inside and then also open things up on the perimeter," she added.

At halftime, the Knights led 30-25 and Murphy had nine points heading into the locker room. The Orange and Black shot .481 from the field and kept the Titans to .355 from field which included  .143 from three-point range.

Sophomore Katie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) now needs two assists to tie the single season school record. The all-time series between these programs is now tied at 3-3 as Wartburg has claimed the last three consecutive which included the earlier 67-56 win over UW-Oshkosh on Dec. 29 at its own annual Holiday Tournament on Dec. 29.
