Luther Compiles Strong Fourth Quarter to Sail Past No. 8/8 Knights

DECORAH, Iowa-- Luther used a 26-point fourth quarter to give No. 8/8 Wartburg its first conference loss of the season. The Norse outscored the Knights 26-12 in the final frame to take the 66-61 victory. The Orange and Black are now 15-2 overall and 7-1 in Iowa Conference games while Luther moved to 10-5, 6-1.

Wartburg led 49-40 at the end of the third quarter. The Norse opened the fourth with a 10-2 run over the first four minutes to knot the score at 50 all. A trey by junior Kristie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) gave the Knights the three-point lead (55-52) with 4:48 to play. The Orange and Black led by five (59-54) on a basket by twin sister Katie Sommer with 3:12 to go. Luther then took the lead on back-to-back threes to take the one-point lead with 1:23 to play.

Another basket by the Norse gave them the three-point lead with :39 to go and made their two free throws with :12 left to build its lead to five (64-59). Katie Sommer sliced the margin to three with :08 to play and fouled two seconds later to try to get the ball back. Luther made its next two free throws and Wartburg's last second shot was blocked to seal the win for the home team.

Kristie Sommer led all scorers with 17 points as she had five three's. Katie followed with 15 points and five assists.

As a team, the Knights held the team advantages in field goal percentage (.354 vs. .349) and three-point field goal percentage (.350 vs. .316).

The Orange and Black conclude their two-game road trip at Nebraska Wesleyan Saturday at 2 p.m.
