Neuendorf Records Double Double in 80-62 Victory over Simpson

WAVERLY, Iowa-- For the second consecutive game, junior Morgan Neuendorf (Shell Rock) recorded a new career-high in points. In Saturday's 80-62 win, she had 21 points which bested her previous mark of 19 set on Wednesday. Neuendorf tied her career high in field goals made (8), three-point field goals (4) and rebounds (11). She had her second double double of the season with 21 points and 11 rebounds on the day.

No. 12/14 Wartburg moved to 18-2 overall and 10-1 in Iowa Conference games, while Simpson fell to 7-13, 4-7. This also completed the season sweep over the Storm.


Junior Kristie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) was the second-leading scorer with 18 points as she had six treys to finish two shy of the single-game school record, which she set at Dubuque last season. She had four three's in the first half alone.

Junior Miranda Murphy (Alleman) had 16 points and classmate Katie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) rounded out the leading scorers with 13 points. Katie also surpassed the 300 career assist mark with six on the day as she has 305 to date.

In the first half, neither team led by more than double digits as the Knights led by as many as seven shortly into the second quarter. The score was tied for the eighth time at 43 all with 6:40 left in the third. The Orange and Black compiled a 12-7 run over the next 4:30 to reclaim the lead for good. Wartburg used a strong fourth-quarter to build its lead to double digits.

The Knights held the team advantages in three point field goal percentage (.483 vs. .333) and free throw percentage (.900 vs. .563). The Orange and Black also made 14 treys compared to Simpson's seven and won the battle on the boards (38-35) which included on the offensive glass (9-7).

Wartburg takes to the road next week and will travel to face Loras Wednesday at 6 p.m.
