DUBUQUE, Iowa-- The No. 11/13 Wartburg women's basketball team snapped Loras' six-game winning streak with the 88-83 win Wednesday. This also marked the season sweep over the Duhawks.
Junior Katie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) had a team-high 24 points, which was three shy of her career mark. She also moved into second on the career assist leader list with 310 to date. Katie is 14 assists shy of setting a new single-season best, a record that she set last year. Classmates Miranda Murphy (Alleman) and Kristie Sommer (Cedar Rapids)Â followed with 19 and 18 points, respectively. Murphy was a perfect 7-7 at the free throw line.
Junior Morgan Neuendorf (Shell Rock) rounded out the leading scorers with 12 on the night.
The Knights were ahead 42-37 at halftime and the score was tied for tenth and final time in the third quarter. The Duhawks whittled the margin to two (65-63) with 8:16 to play but the Orange and Black scored six consecutive points to take the eight-point lead. Wartburg led by as many as 12 points in the final frame.
The Knights held the team advantages in field goal percentage (.519 vs. .439) and three-point field goal percentage (.545 vs. .391). Each team shot .800 from the line.
The Orange and Black conclude their week on the road against Central Saturday at 2 p.m.
