WAVERLY, Iowa-- The No. 9/9 Wartburg women's basketball team (24-2 overall) advanced to the Iowa Conference Tournament Championship game with its 82-67 win over Buena Vista (14-13) Thursday. The Knights will face second-seed Luther in Levick Arena Saturday at 4 p.m. This will be the program's sixth appearance in the tournament championship game and second in three years with the most recent in 2015.
With the win, the Orange and Black increased their winning streak to nine.
Junior Katie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) led all scorers with 22 points as she tied her career-high with nine field goals. She also led the team on the glass with seven rebounds and eight assists.
Classmates Miranda Murphy (Alleman) joined her in double digits with 16 points as she was a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. Juniors Aryn Jones (Marion) had 13 and Morgan Neuendorf (Shell Rock) had 12.
Buena Vista led 37-35 at halftime and the score was knotted for the 10th and final time at 52 all with 2:58 left in the third.
Wartburg used a three-point play by junior Abbie Haupert (Collins) to take the two-point lead with 0:46 to go in the quarter. The Knights used a strong fourth-quarter and outscored BV 22-1 as they led by as many as 16 in the frame.
The Orange and Black held the team advantages in all three shooting percentage categories.
