WAVERLY, Iowa-- Five players finished in double digits for the Knights in the 98-63 win over Buena Vista Monday. Senior Katie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) had 16 points, classmate Megan Murphy (Alleman) tallied 14, just two shy of her career best. Senior Morgan Neuendorf (Plainfield) finished with 12, and classmates Aryn Jones (Marion) and Kristie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) each had 11.
Sophomore Emma Gerdes (Cedar Falls) led the team on the glass with six rebound, while Neuendorf and Jones each had five.
The No. 2/6 Wartburg women's basketball team moved to 16-0 overall and 7-0 in Iowa Conference games, while BV is now 8-8 on the season and 3-4 in IIAC games. This was the third-straight loss for BV.
The Orange and Black opened on a 17-8 run over the first five minutes of the game. Buena Vista sliced the margin to four three minutes into the second quarter, but Wartburg answered with a 14-2 run over the next four minutes to build its lead to 16.
The Knights continued to lead by 23 or more points for the duration.
The Orange and Black set new season bests in points and three point field goals. In addition, they held the team advantages in all three shooting percentage categories and forced 19 turnovers while only surrendering eight.
Wartburg takes to the road Wednesday when it travels to face Nebraska Wesleyan at 6 p.m.
