WAVERLY, Iowa-- The No. 15/21 Wartburg women's basketball team started the season 1-0 in the 66-49 win over UW-Platteville Saturday.
The Knights took the slim lead 31-29 at halftime as freshman Hannah Anderson (Forest City) made her two free throws at the end of the half. The Orange and Black compiled a 21-6 fourth quarter to seal the win.
Junior Emma Gerdes (Cedar Falls) and sophomore Tori Hazard (Janesville) co-led Wartburg with 14 points. Hazard tallied 12 of her points from the free throw line.
Junior Amanda Brainerd (DeWitt) and sophomore Ally Conrad (Cedar Falls) co-led the team on the glass with five rebounds.
Defensively, the Knights held the Pioneers to a 25% team three-point field goal percentage on the day.
