No. 23/24 Wartburg Hosts Annual Holiday Tournament

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The No. 23/24 Wartburg women's basketball team (8-2 overall) hosts its annual Holiday Tournament this weekend. The Knights will face North Central (3-8) at 1 p.m. Saturday with No. 3/3 St. Thomas and Washington University-St. Louis in the 3 p.m. game.

The winners will advance to Sunday's championship game at 3 p.m. with the losers playing in the consolation game at 1 p.m.

The Series
Wartburg holds the all-time series lead at 2-0 over North Central, though the programs have not met since Nov. 26, 2011.

Wartburg
Junior  Emma Gerdes (Cedar Falls) leads the team with 12.0 PPG. Classmate Amanda Brainerd (DeWitt) and senior Adrienne Boettger (Cedar Falls) join her in double figures with 11.0 and 10.9 PPG, respectively.

Brainerd leads the team on the glass with 5.7 rebounds/game and Gerdes has a team-best 52 assists.

North Central
Alanna Newsome is the leading scorer at 13.2 PPG. Natalie Dimitrova is the leading rebounder with 5.9/game.

National Stat Rankings
Wartburg ranks in the top 100 of 11 statistical categories, which the NCAA released Monday.
 
The Knights rank seventh in rebounding margin (9.2), eighth in assists/game (19.7) and field goal percentage (47.4), ninth in assists (197), 27th in three-point field goal percentage defense (23.4), 42nd in assist turnover ratio (1.05), 51st in scoring margin (15.1), 52nd in scoring offense (73.1), 54th in win-loss percentage (80.0), 80th in points (731), and 96th in three-point field goals (67).

Individually, one Knight ranks in the top 100 of four statistical categories: Gerdes ranks 29th in assists (54), 31st in assists/game (5.4), 65th in steals (29) and 74th in steals/game (2.9).
