DUBUQUE, Iowa-- Junior Emma Gerdes (Cedar Falls) and sophomore Kaitlyn Volesky (Mount Vernon) recorded career highs with 16 and 14 points, respectively, in No. 17/19 Wartburg's 76-64 win over Loras Wednesday.
With the victory, the Knights remain undefeated in American Rivers Conference play and moved to 6-1 on the season. The Duhawks fell to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in A-R-C.
Gerdes' previous career high was 15 points, set most recently against North Park on Nov. 26, 2017. This is the third-straight game Volesky has set a career high in scoring.
Two fellow teammates joined them in double figures as senior Adrienne Boettger (Cedar Falls) had 13 points, and junior Amanda Brainerd (DeWitt) had 12 points.
Gerdes led the team with six rebounds and as many assists.
The score was close at the start of the first quarter and was tied for the third time at 10 all with 5:01 left. Loras took the slight edge at 13-12 with 3:37 remaining. The Orange and Black answered with a 9-0 run to build their lead to nine over the next two minutes.
Wartburg continued to lead for the duration of the second quarter and took the 13-point lead into halftime. The Knights continued to lead by double digits for the rest of the game.
The Orange and Black have now won the last seven-straight over the Duhawks.
Wartburg returns to the court Saturday when it hosts UW-Eau Claire at 3 p.m.
