STORM LAKE, Iowa-- Five Wartburg players scored in double digits in the 97-72 win over Buena Vista Wednesday. Senior Adrienne Boettger (Cedar Falls) led the contingent with 18, sophomore Tori Hazard (Janesville) finished with 16, junior Emma Gerdes (Cedar Falls) tallied 14, junior Katie Lindeman (Grundy Center) had 11, and junior Amanda Brainerd (DeWitt) finished with 10.
Gerdes narrowly missed a double-double as she led the team with eight rebounds.
The No. 19/20 Knights moved to 13-3 on the season and 6-1 in conference games with the victory, while BV fell to 5-12, 0-8 for its fifth-straight loss.
The Orange and Black tied the single game school record with their .952 free throw percentage (20-21). This mark was previously set at Coe on Dec. 7, 2016.
Wartburg opened the contest with a 6-0 run over the first minute and a half. Buena Vista made it a one-point game on a layup with 6:14 to play in the first, but the Knights answered with a 5-0 run over the next 1:30 to push their margin again to six, and later led by 15 at the end of the frame.
BV whittled the lead to nine with 3:34 to play in the second quarter as it made both free throws. Sophomore Ally Conrad (Cedar Falls) compiled a 3-0 run by herself over the next minute to make the Orange and Black's lead to double digits for the duration of the game.
Senior Kayley Shoen (Truman, Minn.) gave Wartburg its biggest lead of the night at 25 points with her two successful free throws at the end of the contest.
The Knights owned two of the three team shooting percentage categories in field goal percentage (.603 vs. .439) and free throw percentage (.952 vs. .813), rebounds (30-26), assists (25-18), and blocks (6-0).
This marked a season-high in scoring, as they surpassed the previous high of 96 set in the win over Carroll on Nov. 17. All 17 players saw playing time in tonight's contest.
The Orange and Black return to action Saturday when they host Dubuque at 5 p.m.
