WAVERLY, Iowa -- The Knights swept the individual and team titles as the Wartburg cross country team hosted the John Kurtt Triangular Saturday.
Aubrie Fisher and
Joe Freiburger took home top individual honors with course records during the Knights' season opener.
The women ran the five-kilometer race, followed by a 6k for the men at the newly remodeled Max Cross Country Course. Both teams took first place with a perfect 15 team points each to finish ahead of Luther College and the University of Dubuque.
Fisher posted a winning personal best 5k time of 18:28.6 and the Wartburg women collected nine of the top-10 individual places.
Carina Collet was the runner up with a personal best time of 18:19.5, followed by
Trinity Borland,
Moriah Morter, and
Shaelyn Hostager as the Knights' top five scorers.
The Orange & Black men claimed the top six finishes, including seven of the top 10. Freiburger led the 6k race with a time of 18:49.2, which clocked six seconds ahead of the runner-up,
Christopher Collet (18:55.7).
A trio of juniors trailed for the top five results;
Alec Ille,
Morgan Shirley-Fairbairn, and
Dalton Martin.

The Knights return to action on Sept. 26 at the Coe College Triangular in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, competing against the Kohawks and Nebraska Wesleyan University.
