Wrestling Opens A-R-C Schedule at the University of Dubuque

[UPDATED Jan. 22, 3:15 p.m.]

The meet at Luther College has been POSTPONED due to health and safety concerns.
The makeup date versus the Norse is to be determined.


Wartburg will travel to the University of Dubuque for a dual match against the Spartans at 11 a.m in McCormick Gymnasium. No general admission will be allowed. Two spectators per participant will be permitted.

WAVERLY, Iowa
 - The No. 2-ranked Wartburg wrestling team is set to open its 2021 American Rivers Conference schedule this Saturday, Jan. 23 in Decorah, Iowa, at the Luther College Triangular. 

The Knights will face off against Luther at 11 a.m., followed by a match against the University of Dubuque at 12:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Wartburg opened its 2021 season against Division I opponent Iowa State University, falling 35-6. Two Knights recorded wins in decisions, Zane Mulder at 165 and Kyle Briggs at 174.

THE SERIES
Saturday's meeting versus Luther will mark the 67th all-time match between the Knights and Norse. Most recently, Wartburg defeated Luther 47-0 last season in Decorah. The Knights are undefeated versus the Norse dating back to 1987.

Wartburg and Dubuque's contest marks the 52nd all time between the two schools, with the Knights holding a 41-8-2 advantage. Wartburg hold a win streak over the Spartans dating back to 1969 and last year earned a 41-9 victory during the A-R-C Duals in Pella, Iowa.

KNIGHTS SELECTED FIRST IN PRESEASON POLL
Wartburg was voted to finish first in the American Rivers Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, released Jan. 13. The Knights received 63 points and seven first place votes, which was seven points higher than second place Loras College who collected 56 points and one first place vote. 

SIX KNIGHTS RANKED BY NWCA
The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) released its first edition of the 2021 NCAA Division III Coaches Rankings Thursday, Jan. 21, with Wartburg tied for second of 16 teams with 39 points. 

Additionally, six Knights were ranked individually among the top 10 in their respective weight classes, which leads the nation.

WARTBURG PICKED FIRST IN FLOWRESTLING PRESEASON RANKINGS
Wartburg was ranked first in the initial release of the 2020-21 Division III FloWrestling team rankings, totaling 62 points to sit atop the top-25 preseason poll, released Nov. 6, 2020.
