No. 13/14 Knights Women's Basketball Comeback Falls Short Against Redlands

REDLANDS, Calif—A late comeback by the No. 13/14 Wartburg Knights women's basketball team fell short as the University of the Redlands Bulldogs posted a 72-65 victory over the Knights
 
Britney Young found the first basket for the Knights, collecting an offensive rebound prior to the shot. Jaedon Murphy made a pair of free throws before Sara Faber added a late basket for the Knights. The Knights were held to six points in the first quarter, shooting 12 percent from the field.
 
Faber and Young added the first points of the second quarter for the Knights, making a series of free throws. Brea Dillavou caught a pass from Macy Harris for a layup with 6:43 remaining in the first half. Murphy made her first three-pointer of the day on an assist from Hannah Anderson before adding back-to-back baskets. The Knights finished the first half on a 6-2 run as they would trail by 17 at the break.
 
The Knights outscored the Bulldogs 24-14 in the third quarter, as Harris opened the scoring with back-to-back baskets. Dillavou caught a late pass from Murphy to bring the Knights with nine. Murphy had a solo 9-2 run, bringing the Knights with four at 51-47. The Bulldogs hit a shot from behind the arc with seconds left in the third quarter, taking a seven-point lead over the Knights.
 
Taylor Runchey connected on a pass from Dillavou as the Knights and Bulldogs traded baskets in the fourth quarter. Back-to-back three-pointers from Murphy and Harris brought the Knights with three with 4:57 remaining in the game. Harris recorded back-to-back basket as the Knights came with one at 62-61. Murphy recorded four points in the final minute of the game, as the Bulldogs went on a 10-4 run and stopped the Knights comeback.
 
Checking out the Numbers
 
On 10-of-17 shooting from field goal range, Murphy led the Knights in scoring with 27 points. After recording a career-high 16 points, Harris added 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Faber led the Knights in rebounding, grabbing six boards in the contest.

The Knights were perfect from the free throw line for the first time this season, making all nine attempts.
 
Offensively, the Knights were 25-of-60 from field goal range (41 percent) and were 6-of-19 from behind the arc (32 percent).
 
The Knights were held to a season-low made three-pointers (6) and rebounds (26).
 
Knights in the Poll
 
The Knights fell in the polls this week but remained inside the top-15. The Knights, who previously held the No. 5 spot, sit at No. 13 in the D3hoops.com poll. The Knights hold onto the No. 14 spot in the WBCA poll, dropping six spots.
 
Next Time Out
 
The Knights return to action as they host the Wartburg Tournament inside Levick Arena. The Knights will host three teams on Dec. 29 and 30.
