WAVERLY, Iowa - Wartburg men's tennis will continue its nonconference spring schedule when they host Northwestern College on Friday, March 12 at the Meirink Family Tennis Facility at 4:00 p.m. before heading to Winona, Minn. on Saturday, March 13 to take on Saint Mary's University at 12:30 p.m.
The contest against Northwestern will mark the second time the two programs have met this year as the Knights took a 6-3 win against the Red Raiders back on Feb. 13 and hold a 4-0 all-time record against NW. The Orange & Black will look to capture their third all-time victory against St. Mary's as the teams have met just seven times dating back to 1992.
Wartburg (3-6, 0-1 A-R-C) comes into the games following a 0-2 weekend that saw them fall to Morningside College 3-4 and Hamline University 3-6. Junior
Lucas Huffman bolstered the Knights last week when he improved to a team-high 6-3 overall in singles and 5-4 in doubles. With his 2-0 singles performance last weekend, the Marion, Iowa native Huffman was awarded the A-R-C men's tennis player of the week for the second consecutive week. Freshman
Cade Davis has shown well in his collegiate debut season as he has tallied a 5-3 record in singles, which is the second best on the team. The Knights are a combined 24-30 in singles play and 10-17 in doubles.
Northwestern enters the contest with a 2-3 ledger and have yet to compete this spring season. As previously mentioned, the Knights and Red Raiders competed in the fall with Wartburg coming away with a 6-3 victory. Both of Northwestern's wins have come against Mount Mary University.
The Cardinals of St. Mary's post a 1-1 record and did not compete in the fall. They suffered a 1-8 defeat against Bethel University and came away victorious against Loras College in a 7-2 match. Sophomore Josh Janssen is the only remaining Cardinal with an undefeated record in singles play as he has tallied a 2-0 ledger at the No. 3 position.
