WAVERLY, Iowa - Wartburg men's tennis will begin a three-game weekend road trip on Saturday, March 27 when they head to Indianola, Iowa for a conference matchup against Simpson College at 10 a.m. and a neutral site contest against Saint Ambrose University at 1:30 p.m. The Knights will then turn around and head to Mount Vernon, Iowa on Sunday, March 28 for a match against Cornell College at 11 a.m.Â
Wartburg (4-9, 0-1 A-R-C) split last weekend's matches when they fell to the University of Northwestern and defeated Monmouth College. Junior
Lucas Huffman extended his winning streak to five matches against Northwestern but saw his run come to an end against Monmouth. Freshman
Gregor Kincaid had a promising collegiate debut when he took down his opponent at the No. 6 position against the Fighting Scots for his first win as a college player.Â
The Marion, Iowa native Huffman has tallied a team-high nine wins in singles play at the No. 1 position and
Cade Davis is close behind with eight tallies. The No. 1 duo of Huffman and freshman
Jackson Eells has paced the Knights in doubles play with a 7-5 record. As a team, Wartburg is 36-42 in singles and 16-23 in doubles.Â
Simpson comes into the contest with a 1-7 overall record and a 0-3 ledger in American Rivers Conference play with its lone win coming against Cornell. Sophomore Chase Henry has posted the best singles record with a 4-4 tally.Â
Saint Ambrose march into the match with a 2-6 record with two wins over the University of Dubuque. The Knights and the Fighting Bees met in the fall back on Sept. 19 with the Knights coming away with a 6-3 victory. James Boustead and Matt Zuccato share a team-high three wins in singles play.Â
Cornell (5-3, 0-0 MWC) will match up with Wartburg for the second time this year as they defeated the Orange & Black 5-4 back on Oct. 2. Freshman Alexander Hadler paces the Rams in singles with an 8-1 record while senior Shoma Kishimoto has totaled a 4-0 ledger at the No. 1 singles position. Hadler and Federico Polidori both possess a team-best 7-2 tally in doubles.Â
